Re: Minutes of the March 2001 meeting of the PSUAA Greater Chicago Chapter Board at the American Heart Association Office on Westmont, IL.
Charlie Carter called the meeting to order at 9:15 am. Charlie Carter, Phil Gresh, John Wenaas, Marybeth Zlock, Colin Costello, Janeen Paradise, Jill Siegel and Dave Hart were present.
Minutes
The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as written.
Old Business
Two items of old business were discussed.
- Gina Razum will pursue the options for getting chapter monogrammed clothing. It was suggested that Lands End and the PSU bookstore were two potential options.
- Phil Gresh reported no action on the bylaws review activity.
Committee Reports
- AAAO – Emmett Moore reported that he has a replacement in mind for himself as chair of the Committee. Further details will be reported when available.
- Alumni Admissions – Jill Siegel reported that 21 students attended the 2001 Offer Reception at the Hyatt in Schaumburg. Volunteers are needed for the Spring college fairs. The 2001 Prospect Reception will be held on Sunday, June 3 at the Hyatt in Schaumburg.
- Career Networking – No report.
- Communications – Colin Costello was welcomed as a new member to the Board.
- Community Service – No report.
- Membership – Janeen Paradise reported that one-year membership totals 175 and the two-year rolling membership totals 464. Janeen emphasized the need for better data management tools, such as a current version of Microsoft Access. The Board authorized Janeen to purchase a current version of Microsoft Access for reimbursement by the Chapter.
- Parent-Student Interaction – No report.
- Scholarship – Marybeth Zlock reported that the Scholarship Committee selected six applicants and recommended that they be granted Chapter Scholarships. It was decided that each of the six should receive $500. It was recommended that the Scholarship Committee revise the letter we send to students to be more specific about what we want them to tell us in their applications for the Chapter scholarships.
- Social Committee – Charlie Carter reported for Robyn Young that the Social Committee is pursuing a Cubs game outing and an Air and Water Show outing. It was reported that the Cubs game could be priced at between $35 (break even) or $45 (face value of all aspects of the outing, including tickets, food, drink, etc.). The Board recommended that the Cubs outing be priced at $40. Regarding the Air and Water Show, the Board approved the event with the smaller boat this year. Robyn Young will coordinate these events.
- Sports Committee – Dave Hart reported that the Fall football schedule has Iowa (Sept 29), Illinois (Nov 10) and Northwestern (Oct 20) as road games for possible Chapter events. It was recommended that the Chapter consider a bus trip to Illinois or an organized event in Evanston for the Northwestern game.
Treasurer’s Report
The treasurer’s report is attached.
New Business
- Linking Chapter and PSUAA membership – Charlie Carter reported that Valerie Krauss asked the Board to consider whether it would approve some formal link between Chapter and PSUAA membership. The PSUAA is considering a proposal to allow this. The Board was in favor of it as long as the full burden of the administration of such an effort would be carried by the PSUAA, not the Chapter.
- Fundraiser Raffle – Phil Gresh reported that the Chapter has normally done a fundraiser raffle every other year and that 2001 is the next year in that progression. The Board approved the continuation of this activity. Phil Gresh will pursue this with Maria Andriola.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:45 am.
Respectfully submitted,
Charlie Carter
