Penn State Offer Receptions
• Thanks to all those members who came out to represent Penn State at the receptions for students offered admission! Offer receptions are a very important part of the admissions process, as students are beginning to make major life decisions about their future. Alumni volunteers are a big part of that decision. The personal stories and information you shared allowed for families to see the amazing pride and passion held by Penn Staters. Your attendance and coordination of the afternoon really made the event a success.
• Attention Penn Staters in the northern and western suburbs! Volunteers are needed to attend offer receptions in your area! These receptions help bring the Penn State experience all the way to Illinois, and we need local alumni to help flesh out the real Penn State for interested high school students.

A Lion on the Prowl: The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer
• May 31 to June 1 is the annual Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Chicago. The Avon Foundation was founded in 1955 to help provide access to care for those that most need it, fund educational programs, and accelerate research into new treatments and potential cures.
• Penn State’s very own Heather Bush (BA/IB, ’02) needs to raise $1,800 to walk the marathon and a half distance (39.3 miles) during those two days. As of today, she’s over 50% of the way toward her goal!

Volunteer at Alumni for Public Schools
• Do you like working with children? Alumni for Public Schools, a non-profit organization, coordinates partnerships between individual Chicago Public Schools and the Chicago chapters of college and alumni associations from around the world.
• Alumni clubs can choose to work with elementary or high school age students and can participate in a range of activities with varied levels of commitment. Activities can range from one-time events (including Career Days, Science/History Fair judging and field trips) to ongoing events (including tutoring, mentoring and helping with the college application process). The types of activities and level of involvement are completely up to us.
